AN eight-week exercise program at the Croydon Leisure and Aquatic Centre is aimed at people with physical disabilities and neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis.
The pilot program is a joint initiative of Maroondah Council and MS Australia. The program will be fully supervised by qualified instructors.
Participants will undergo a one-on-one assessment at the beginning before working through the program, specially designed to suit their ability and needs.
It will be held on Wednesdays for all ages and on Saturdays for younger participants.
"For people who have a condition like multiple sclerosis, sometimes performing the activities of daily life can be hard enough, let alone taking part in leisure activities," Cr Rob Steane said.
"There is strong evidence that people who have MS notice an improvement in their symptoms after taking part in strength-building exercise classes."
The program is also open to people with chronic health conditions.
People interested in taking part in the program are encouraged to register their interest now with the leisure centre, as the individual assessments need to be undertaken before the sessions.
Maximising your Strength runs from noon-1pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays from September 8 at the leisure centre, 11 Civic Square, Croydon. Cost $9 a session, including access to aquatic facilities. Details: 92945508.
