Australia Day: Maroondah's best rewarded

26 Jan, 2012 11:00 AM
MAROONDAH Council’s most outstanding citizens have been recognised at an Australia Day awards ceremony at Ringwood Lake today.

The award winners are:

Citizen of the Year: Former councillor Peter McArthur, for his commitment to volunteering during the past 40 years.

Young Citizen of the Year: Frances Rowland, 16, for volunteer work through and participation in the Maroondah Young Leader’s program.

Community Event of the Year: Youth Voice for Peace, during last year’s Remembrance Day.

Maroondah mayor Rob Steane presented the awards, and congratulated all nominees.

‘‘Each of them provides a valuable service to our community and it is important that their efforts don’t go unrewarded,’’ he said.
