THE first wave of donations from sales of a Black Saturday tribute book, produced by a Lilydale private school, has begun in earnest.
Firestorm, a 240-page hardcover book featuring first-hand accounts and pictures, is the brainchild of Glenvale School students in Lilydale and Berwick and director Anthony Arkcoll.
The book, with 100per cent of profits donated to CFA brigades, has sold thousands of copies since its November release.
Over the next fortnight Glenvale School students will present more than $200,000 to 40 CFA brigades involved in the Black Saturday bushfires.
Mr Arkcoll said one of the motivations for producing the book was that many of the communities near where school members live were directly hit by the fires.
"While no students lost houses, many of our neighbours, customers, employees and suppliers weren't so fortunate.
Firestorm helps us to understand, empathise and share in this tragedy and opens our eyes to what they endured in the teeth of that mighty inferno."
The Exclusive Brethren school has 12 campuses in Victoria. Last year, members of the school community around the country donated more than $3million to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
The first cheque presentation to 12 brigades, totalling $62,000, was held at Kinglake fire station last Wednesday.
In the coming weeks students will travel to Kilmore, Narre Warren North, Bendigo and Churchill for more presentations.
Glenvale student Josh Grace feels great satisfaction being able to present CFA captains with hefty donations.
"It will be a sobering moment as we remember the loss of life, grief and suffering. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the many people affected."
