TRIM the branches, check gutters and roofs and draw up an emergency plan.
These simple measures have been put on a to-do list for Maroondah residents as part of StormSafe Week next month.
The aim is to make residents prepare for any round of wild weather. Maroondah Council has joined forces with the State Emergency Service to promote the event.
Croydon SES spokeswoman Janet Morrison said being prepared for a storm could help reduce costs and minimise the amount of damage to a property.
Cr Rob Steane said Maroondah was known as a storm-prone area and most storms hit Victoria between October and March.
"Many of these result in property damage and flooding, so it is important for residents to ensure their property is protected well before that.
"Some residents across Victoria are still living with the damage caused by the hailstorms earlier this year. The council wants to ensure residents are as prepared as they can be before the next round of bad weather."
Last month, when heavy rain and high winds lashed Melbourne's outer east, the Croydon SES received 64 calls for help over a two-day period for tasks including repairing building damage caused by trees and trees over driveways.
