A RINGWOOD resident who has lived with cerebral palsy all his life will give the council a hand on its disability advisory committee.
Geoff Panckhurst's desire to help others in the same position moved him to join Maroondah Council's disability advisory committee this year.
"I see the committee as a forum for disabled people to be heard," he said.
Claire Grundy, ambassador for the Monkami Centre in Croydon, has also joined the panel.
Ms Grundy said her place on the committee would benefit Monkami, a support service for 145 adults with an intellectual disability in the municipalities of Maroondah and the Yarra Ranges.
"My perspective is different because I see the need for services for people with intellectual disabilities," she said.
"The committee's goal is to ultimately learn more about access issues in the area and improve access to support networks for people with a range of disabilities."
The committee is also searching for other members to join. Maroondah councillor Nora Lamont, who is the committee's chairwoman, is encouraging people with disabilities, or people who care for them, to apply.
Applications close Tuesday, February 7. For more information, visit www.maroondah.gov.au
