GREEN thumbs at Healesville's Badger Creek Primary School have been nominated for a national Landcare award.
The school's junior Landcare group is in the running for the National Landcare Education Award for its contribution to the environment and local community.
Principal Mark Brisbane said Landcare work at the school was an ongoing project.
"The pupils spend time each week tending to our vegetable and indigenous vegetable gardens as well as taking care of the school environment."
Mr Brisbane said the group was driven by a pupil's mother, Karen Garth, and teacher Erin Murphy, with each class taking turns to help in the gardens.
Two pupils and two teachers will make the trip to Canberra for the National Landcare gala dinner at Parliament house on June 24 for the awards.
The pupils will make a presentation about their Landcare efforts before attending the presentation dinner, where the winners of the 12 categories will be announced in front of 600 people.
Landcare Australia chief executive Heather Campbell congratulated the school on its achievement.
"The awards recognise individuals and groups from all corners of Australia who are tackling the tough environmental issues," she said.
"Healesville can be proud to have a local school nominated for these awards and I encourage the local community to show their support by voting for them in the People's Choice Award."
