A NEW indoor skate park in Lilydale is creating a buzz among skateboarders, BMX riders and scooter riders.
The park, built by youth organisation Bridge Builders in a shed at Lilydale Showgrounds, will be officially opened at a ceremony on Saturday.
Bridge Builders skate enterprise manager Ryan Sykes, who has spent the past six months building ramps and boxes for the park, said it would be a real drawcard. "We are hoping to get around 28,000 young people through here each year," he said.
The park will be open to the public from 3-9pm during the week, with hours extended to midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.
The $8 entry fee will go to maintaining and improving the park, which includes a kiosk and skate shop.
School groups will be able to book the park during the day, and skate and BMX lessons will be available.
Bridge Builders is planning to turn a neighbouring shed into a workshop, so the park's users can learn to upgrade and repair their vehicles.
Live music, street art and regular competitions are included in plans to energise the local skating, BMX and scooter scene.
