TWO pupils from Manchester Primary School got the royal treatment with their selection to meet the Queen during her visit to Melbourne last week.
Mooroolbark grade 6 school captains Skye and Ben were selected along with more than 300 Victorian schoolchildren to catch a glimpse of the Queen when she visited Government House.
Before the meeting the monarch, school principal Peter Jenkins and the pupils were given a list of appropriate royal etiquette to follow.
This included not speaking to the Queen unless she approached them.
The two 12 year olds said their peers were a bit envious at their selection but were excited to hear about it at school the next day.
One of Skye's friends cheekily told her to pinch the crown off the Queen's head. Ben's friends told him he should sneak inside her suitcase.
"I was very nervous and excited before the meeting," Skye said. "I had to keep telling myself that it was real and not a dream."
Skye's mother gave her bouquet of native Australian flowers to hand to the Queen.
The Queen was almost ushered past their pair but caught sight of the flowers and stopped to receive them and greet the two pupils. "I said, 'Hello Your Majesty', and she smiled at us," Ben said.
Mr Jenkins was thrilled the pupils were selected to take part and was almost as excited as them. "It was a great moment, one they will both always remember," he said.
