FOOD, furniture, technology and even talking are some of the things students at Mooroolbark College will give up this weekend as part of World Vision's 40 Hour Famine.
Students from across all year levels are planning on taking part in the fund-raiser, which is aimed at raising money for children living in poverty.
Student representative council president Samantha Foden said the students were excited and nervous about taking part.
"It's important for kids to do this because it isn't just donating money and forgetting about why you are donating," Samantha said.
"It's also about gaining knowledge about what these people actually go through.''
Though people typically give up food for the fund-raiser, the students are getting more creative and will sleep on the floor or give up their computers as well. Many are pairing up to help each other out through the weekend.
All the students agreed they felt everyone could make a difference by taking part, no matter how much or little they raise.
"Every cent counts because the awareness raised is invaluable," said Samantha.
All funds raised go directly to World Vision's projects around the world. The 40 Hour Famine runs this Friday to Sunday. Details: www.worldvision.com.au/40HourFami ne.
