Hendy O'Toole, pictured with Casey MP Tony Smith, is preparing to walk the Kokoda Trail. The 60-year-old, who is profoundly deaf and relies on hearing aids to communicate, will begin her walk on July 11 with Getaway Trekking, which is based in Montrose, to raise money for the Bionic Ear Institute. Mr Smith said Ms O'Toole was an inspiration. "As someone who knows first hand the difficulties people suffering from hearing loss experience, Hendy now wants to give back and raise money to help more people across Australia overcome their hearing disability."

The Lions of Club of Croydon and Mr Smith will host a family fun day at Suite 1, 1 East Ridge Drive, Chirnside Park, from 11am-1pm on Saturday to raise money to support Ms O'Toole's cause.

Details: 9727 0799.
