Paperwork's in on Eastland plans

27 Sep, 2011 04:00 AM
THE ball is finally rolling on a proposed revamp of Ringwood's Eastland shopping centre with the owners submitting a planning application for preliminary works to Maroondah Council.

Queensland Investment Corporation has applied to undertake $5million in works to begin the extension of Eastland.

This includes relocating Kmart Tyre and Auto to Eastland's northwest car park off Ringwood Street, modifications to the existing eastern multi-level car park, and an upgrade of electrical and mechanical services.

Mayor Tony Dib said these works would allow QIC to start with the anticipated $500million redevelopment.

Cr Dib said the Eastland development was one of many under way in the Ringwood Activities Area. The others included the expansion of the Ringwood Square shopping centre and construction of 52 new apartments across three buildings. The state government has committed to help fund a new park at Sherbrook Avenue.

The Ringwood Activities Area master plan allows for higher-density development within designated boundaries.
