Residents share in Upwey's learning revolution

31 Aug, 2010 12:00 AM
STUDENTS at Upwey High School showed off their new classrooms recently to family, friends, community members and politicians.

Stage three of the $4.8 million project was officially opened on Wednesday.

It includes a presentation space, year 9 centre, extended arts space and refurbishment of a year 8 learning space.

The 250-seat presentation space can be used to hold lectures and productions, to screen films and as an exam centre.

School principal Tom Daly said the innovative new spaces and furniture supported contemporary learning approaches.

"Even down to the types of chairs we picked - they are a 20-year investment."

He said the new school buildings and an upgrade to the school's netball court and oval were an investment in the Upwey community.

"The community has access to the facilities, not just students," he said.

"The feedback from students and community members has been positive."

Premier John Brumby attended the official opening of the project, which was funded by the Victorian Schools Plan.
