A GROUP of youths from Maroondah and Yarra Ranges schools will meet once a term to discuss issues relevant to their age group as part of a youth council forum.
The forum, run by Kilsyth MP David Hodgett, began last week with student leaders from Tintern Girls Grammar, Pembroke Secondary College, Billanook College, Lilydale Adventist Academy, Croydon Community School and Croydon Secondary College.
Mr Hodgett said the forum gave the students an opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns about issues that are important and relevant to them, such as drug and alcohol education, new P-plater regulations and anti-smoking laws.
Pembroke Secondary College captain Kate Gorfine, 17, said the forum was a good opportunity to be heard. "Being younger, we don't get much of a say so these types of forums are great.
"We discussed issues relevant to us like smoking in school, alcohol and anything youth-related."
