YOUNG people have let their creative juices flow and used music to cope with the fallout of the Black Saturday bushfires.
Led by Salvation Army bushfire recovery youth worker Brad Freind, young musicians, songwriters and recording artists have met weekly in Healesville and Yarra Glen to jam.
"The purpose of the project is to give the young people a creative outlet - something positive that they can use to move forward and tell their stories,' said Mr Freind. "In these areas everyone was affected by the bushfires, either directly or indirectly."
He said the format of the workshops, which are funded by the Sony Foundation, was flexible.
"It's up to the kids how they use the equipment and the time - we're just there to help them if they want, to teach them some stuff or play along with them. It's all for their own benefit - however we may look at doing some performances later in the year."
Workshops are held 3-6pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the Salvation Army building in Healesville and Wednesdays at Memorial Hall in Yarra Glen.
A Saturday workshop, specifically for young people interested in songwriting, has been organised for October 9.
"The workshops are open and any young people who want to have a go at writing, playing or recording their own songs are invited to come along."
Registration is required for the Saturday workshop and a gold coin donation is welcomed. Details: Brad Freind, 0417794102
