Traffic views improve

20 Oct, 2009 04:00 AM
VICROADS is set to improve safety at two traffic trouble spots in Maroondah and Knox.

Signs on the centre median strips in Canterbury Road, Heathmont, and Mountain Highway, Bayswater, will be lowered to improve the visibility of oncoming traffic for people who use wheelchairs and scooters.

Speaking in Parliament last week, Bayswater MP Heidi Victoria said she was pleased the roads authority had listened to the community's concerns.

She said the improvements would improve safety and visibility for elderly and disabled pedestrians.

"I trust the current revision of standards will ensure that these members of society are taken into account and their needs accommodated in the future."

Ms Victoria said VicRoads was revising its design standards of footpaths in medians.

She said it was important the issue be addressed, particularly with an ageing population.
