KILSYTH import Quincy Henderson has solidified his reputation as one of the best defensive players in the South Eastern Australian Basketball League.
The stingy forward was named the East Conference defensive player of the year for the second successive season last Wednesday.
Henderson, 25, is given the toughest defensive role each week by Cobras coach Grant Wallace and rarely fails, polling in every game this season, finishing with 30 out of a possible 54 votes.
But he had a rare down night against Knox star CJ Massingale in the Cobras' elimination final loss at the Kilsyth Basketball Stadium on Saturday.
In a key match-up between the competition's premier offensive talent and the Cobras' defensive machine, Massingale compiled 41 points including the match-winning three-pointer. The Cobras' season is now over.
Wallace said his star American had become an offensive weapon for the Cobras this season, adding to his already imposing presence on defence.
"I wish I had five of him on defence," he said. "Last year he couldn't hit those open jump shots or three-pointers but he spent time working on that and now he can."
