Middle order rescues Wandin

A SIXTH-wicket partnership between Simon Young and Troy Murphy saw Wandin fight back against Woori Yallock in round 9 of the DJ Strachan Shield on Saturday.

Wandin was 5-54 before Young (85) and Murphy (83) restored order. Woori Yallock's Tim Diggins (4-48) and Damien Ryan (2-22) bowled well.

Coldstream had Seville reeling at 4-10 until Leigh Atkins (31) and Adam Burns (30) steadied the innings. Ishara Amerasinghe chipped in with 29 and the Seville tail wagged to get to 222. L Lambert (3-59), Nathan Cuthbertson (2-17), Chris Dobson (2-23) and Scott Reece (2-35) shared the wickets for Coldstream.

Mt Evelyn hosted Yarra Junction and the visiting side batted well to score 304. L Newstead (78), Brad Jones (52) and Nathan Fall (52) were the major contributors. Aaron Booth (3-71) and Luke Jones (2-12) led the Mt Evelyn bowlers.

Hoddles Creek hosted Silvan and notched 173 with Brenton Derix (53) and Wayne Weir (24) the top scorers. Silvan's M Neal (4-58) bowled well and his side should get the required runs if its innings starts strongly.

In the RA Finger Trophy, Yarra Junction dismissed Coldstream for 161 and was 1-25 in reply. Coldstream's Paul Harris (42) and Tom McCulloch (36) led the batsmen, with support from Matt Johnson (28). Geoff Fall (4-36) was the pick of the Yarra Junction bowlers and was supported by Toby Pilton (2-23).

Yarra Glen's Jamie Holland took 5-32 to restrict Wandin to 101. He was supported by John Orren (3-37). Yarra Glen responded with 3-107 on the back of Alex Cowan (49).

Warburton Millgrove's Rod Brown scored 89 to anchor his side's 223 against Woori Yallock. Woori Yallock's A Tazzyman returned 5-58 but his side was struggling at 2-33.

Healesville's Alan Pearce took four top-order wickets to limit Seville to 111 and Healesville made 7-175 in reply.
