RINGWOOD coach Gavin Kellar has challenged the Rams batsmen to make big individual scores during the club's remaining two-day Premier Cricket matches.
The Rams were bowled out for 205 from 92.1 overs on day 2 of their clash against Casey-South Melbourne at Russell Lucas Oval on Saturday, falling short of the Swans' 240.
Six of the Rams' top eight batsmen made 20 or more runs, but Kellar questioned whether his batsmen,
with the exception of opener David King, had the hunger to make big scores.
Number eight batsman Brendan Walsh (45) topped the Rams' run scorers while Ian Holland (36) was next best.
Kellar said the Rams would have won the match if one of their batsmen had put together a big score.
"We need to have their hunger for big scores and go on with it," he said.
"If we had one score of 80-plus then we win.
"Partnerships are also a big thing and we didn't have enough of
those."
Kellar is confident some big scores are around the corner for the
Rams as two-day cricket continues throughout the remaining weeks of the season.
"We have had quite a few scores between 30-60 this season so I'm sure those big scores are not too far around the corner for us."
Aside from the lack of big scores the Rams also had to contend with Victorian speedster Jayde Herrick (5-85 from 30 overs), who was playing for the Swans to maintain form until Sheffield Shield play resumes.
The Swans also fielded Big Bash star Jade Dernbach and former Sheffield Shield star Damien Wright during day1.
"I think it was quite exciting for our younger players to face those types of players and in the long run it will help them improve," Kellar said.
"It was a good test for our players."
The Rams visit Essendon at Windy Hill for day 1 of a two-day clash starting this Saturday.
