Upwey bowlers leave Gully in doldrums

09 Mar, 2010 09:44 AM
UPWEY Tecoma got off to a flying start against Ferntree Gully in the Knox Tavern Cup semi-final, taking 5-10 to leave the visitors rattled at 6-73.

Only Jayden Bradbury (39) was able to keep the home side at bay.

Bad light closely followed by torrential rain and hailstones stopped play in the 38th over. The Upwey Tecoma club rooms copped the full brunt of the Saturday storm with several skylights smashing, causing mild flooding.

Diehard supporter Clarrie, 76, said he’d been watching cricket at Upwey Tecoma for 50 years and had never seen such big hail before.

Upwey Tecoma bowler Ben Wood (3-16) proved the hardest to handle.

In the second semi-final at Kings Park, Johnson Park got off to a good start at 1-49 before Upper Ferntree Gully pegged it back to have the Sharks 4-79 in an even contest.
