Dismal Ranges blown away by red-hot Cannons

31 Aug, 2010 12:00 AM
EASTERN Ranges finished their TAC Cup season on a sour note on Sunday with a 101-point thrashing at the hands of Calder Cannons at Visy Park.

The Ranges showed some fight in the second term to keep the margin to 25 points at the long change, but it was all one-way traffic in the second half.

The Cannons' greater midfield depth was on show. Several players, such as Mitch Wallis and Tom Liberatore, are expected to be AFL material.

The Cannons slammed on 14 goals to two in the second half in an ominous display that will make some of the other finals contenders wary.

Jonathon Patton was again the Ranges' best player with the key-position forward booting four goals. The Ranges sorely missed talented ruckman Leif Cope, who was ruled out of the clash with a groin injury.

In other clashes, Sandringham defeated Bendigo, Dandenong beat Oakleigh, Geelong trumped Northern Knights, North Ballarat smashed Murray Bushrangers and Gippsland Power defeated the Western Jets.
