FOR the Warrens, athletic prowess runs in the family and Knox Little Athletics star Bree Warren is no exception.
Bree's grandfather, Geoff, represented Australia at the 1954 Commonwealth Games.
He is a foundation member of the Knox Little Athletics Centre and was awarded life membership in 1975.
Warren's father, Grant, was a talented marathon runner.
But Bree, 11, is proving she is a talented athlete in her own right.
A fifth placing in a recent schools state cross-country event will see her head to the national competition in that event later this year. She is already a member of the Victorian cross-country team.
When she is competing under the banner of Knox Little Athletics, it is the Fairpark Flyers she represents with distinction.
While she has tried her hand at track and field events, it is cross-country which she enjoys the most.
"I find it more fun than sprinting ,'' Warren says.
"I like running up and down hills and through the bush.''
The Belgrave resident is more than just a runner - she is a talented swimmer with the Casey Tiger Sharks.
"Track is one season of the year, cross-country is the other, swimming is all year round,'' she says.
The Tecoma Primary School pupil still finds time for hobbies such as reading. English is her favourite at school.
Warren is now preparing for the national cross-country championships to be held in Geelong next month.
But the humble athlete isn't dreaming of representing Australia just yet. "I'm just doing it for fun.''
