 Norsemen eclipse Blues

Norsemen eclipse Blues

31 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
A RAMPANT Norwood has dismissed Croydon from the Eastern Football League division 1 finals series with a devastating final term at East Burwood Reserve on Saturday.

The Blues were never in the hunt after an opening quarter that had the Norsemen 28 points in the clear.

A competitive third term got Croydon back within 11 points but an eight-goal last term catapulted Norwood into a cutthroat clash with Balwyn at East Burwood Reserve on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the equation is simple - topple Scoresby and Noble Park is into the Eastern Football League division 1 grand final.

The Bulls booked a berth to play the Magpies when they eased past Balwyn by 58 points, an emphatic win that showed the flag prospects of both teams.

Noble Park looks a genuine premiership threat, while Balwyn will need to lift against the Norsemen this week to shake the tag of pretender.

Hitting the ground running, Noble Park jumped to an early lead and never looked back, building the margin progressively and never looking like slipping against the star-studded Tigers.

Up by 14 points at the first break, six goals at half-time and nine goals at three-quarter time, the Bulls had too much firepower. Tory Dickson finished with five goals, while Shayne Allan booted four.

The Bulls have genuine punch up front with Dickson (who posted his 100th goal of the season) and Allan (62 goals), the leading forward duo in the finals.

As witnessed on Saturday, teams that struggle to hold this double act will struggle to hold Noble Park.

Better players for the Bulls included Sam Monaghan, Andrew McConnell and Jarrod Plymin. Nick Williams, Stewart Kemperman and Craig Anderson also had plenty of possessions.

EFL division 1:

Qualifying final: Noble Park 21.13 (139) d Balwyn 11.15(81). Reserves: East Burwood 9.13 (67) d Scoresby 6.6 (42). Colts: Vermont 14.11 (95) d Lilydale 5.9 (39).

Elimination final: Norwood 17.16 (118) d Croydon 9.10 (64). Reserves: Vermont 13.8 (86) d Blackburn 7.7 (49). Colts: Scoresby 6.9 (45) d E Ringwood 5.14(44).

This Saturday:

2nd semi-final: Scoresby v Noble Park (at Bayswater Oval). Reserves: Knox v East Burwood. Colts: Blackburn v Vermont.
