FERNTREE Gully District Cricket Association finished runner-up at Bendigo Country Week on Friday.
The FTGDCA send a young squad to the annual carnival and looked a strong chance for the trophy until it faced three-time champion Murray Valley in the final.
Despite having Valley at 7-89 Gully was unable to keep the pressure on. Valley scratched out 170, its lowest score of the carnival. Johnson Park bowlers Usman Arif (5-75) and Troy Gstrein (3-37) led the way for Gully, whose batsmen were unable to keep pace with Valley's score, being bowled out for 101.
Knox Gardens star Wayne McInerney was named FTGDCA's player of the tournament.
