Maroondah reveals new names for leisure hubs

MAROONDAH'S leisure facilities, including the new Ringwood pool, will all be rebranded with a "fresh, modern" look and name.

Ringwood aquatic centre will now become Aquanation, while four of five other council facilities will also be rebranded in the next 12 months.

Croydon Leisure and Aquatic Centre will now be known as Aquahub; the Maroondah Indoor Sports Centre will be named The Rings; and Dorset and Ringwood golf courses will be named Dorset Golf and Ringwood Golf.

Croydon Memorial Pool will remain the same.

The naming process of the new Ringwood aquatic centre did not recognise locality, mayor Nora Lamont said.

Cr Lamont said although most local pools included a suburb within the name, that was inappropriate for Aquanation. "When I walked in [to the naming process] I thought it has to have the name Ringwood in it," she said. "But going through I realised it wouldn't have been reflective of what the facility had to offer.

"The council has always known that we are working on a facility of significance, not only for our local community but for the region and for the state."

To date, the council has spent $30,000 on the rebranding.
