Bushfire sirens in the Dandenong Ranges were officially switched on last Thursday. Emergency sirens, which will also be used during floods and severe storms, will sound for either 90 seconds or five minutes. The 90-second sirens indicate a CFA brigade is responding to an incident.
A continuous siren for five minutes means there is an emergency and locals must seek further information. The Dandenong Ranges is one of the first areas in Victoria to test a siren network.
