HAWTHORN defender Brian Lake has escaped club punishment for his drunken night out and arrest in Sorrento on Saturday night.
Lake and his wife Shannon were arrested and spent four hours in the cells and were given a $563 penalty notice.
Before training on Monday, Lake had to front the Hawks' leadership group where it was felt he would be penalised.
Instead, the Hawks opted to direct him to arrange a plan to help victims of the Tasmanian bushfires and to take part in Hawthorn's community partnership with the police-in-schools program.
Lake apologised to the club and supporters.
"I want to move on and gain respect. It was a very embarrassing incident," Lake said on Monday.
The former All Australian left the Western Bulldogs at the end of last season and is seen as the missing cog in the Hawks' premiership aspirations because of his ability to play one-on-one with power forwards.
