YARRA RANGES mayor Jim Child says that whoever takes over the current Swinburne Lilydale TAFE site on July 1 can't provide half-hearted educational solutions.
Cr Child said the new educational provider, who he could not reveal, needed to provide "all or nothing" courses.
"We don't want any annex stuff," he said. "We don't want to tell students they can do their certificate III here but have to do their certificate IV elsewhere."
The university announced last year it would be closing its Lilydale campus, amid drastic funding cuts to TAFE courses across the state.
The decision was met with outrage from outer eastern students and staff and Yarra Ranges Council. They have rallied together to keep the site running as an education provider.
It is rumoured the site will be taken over by Box Hill TAFE, which undertook a feasibility study of the campus late last year with state government funds.
Cr Child hopes higher education will restart at the campus as soon as Swinburne ceases operations. "I'd like to see an immediate transition. The longer you leave the site without anyone on it the harder it will be to find a replacement," he said.
