Re: Ringwood Salvos centre draws flak

Can someone explain why the demolition has already begun when there is an application in place seeking council permission to demolish one of the school buildings? Something stinks with the underhanded nature of this project. I live in Maidstone Street and was never notified of anything happening until I saw the handwritten signs about the proposal put up by another resident before Christmas. A letter outlining the proposal to the residents in the street and surrounding streets wouldn't have been too much to ask from a large organisation like the Salvation Army. A return of the site to its former life as a primary school is what is really needed in the area.

Re: Ranges siren network switched on

I'm in Tecoma and I can hear the sirens only if I am outside. Why don't they use the Sandells Road siren too? Brad (via web)

Re: Every door knocked in bunfight

Does McDonald's still claim "significant community support" for its proposal? Then from whom? From the tourist community or the school kids community, or what? We are entitled to ask: given the overwhelming evidence of strong opposition, on what basis does McDonald's claim to have support? Seeing that McDonald's continually refused to engage in discussions with local residents on this issue, their PR web of deceit is patently obvious. Karl Williams (via web)

Surveys and questionnaires can be easily framed or manipulated to support any one particular agenda. Without transparency and evidence of objective intent from the anti-McDonald's movement, then this survey counts for nothing. Of course, the survey doesn't negate the company's sovereign and legal right to operate in this location — that battle is lost, and the Yarra Ranges Shire Council can no longer appeal VCAT's decision. The many mistakes made by the group of Tecoma protesters does, however, allow other communities to better organise their campaigns against future developments. They need to picket the site then picket the restaurant when it opens (if they lose the fight to stop it). When they picket the restaurant, they need to do it with flyers and coupons for local restaurants. If they keep it up long enough, they will win. VCAT needs to be more responsive to the people of the country and not the avarice of corporations. Also, doesn't Australia have any way of stopping the destruction of historic buildings? Who sold these properties to McDonald's in the first place? There are some important questions that need to be answered. Randee Head (via web)

This will produce massive change in a lovely place. There will be traffic noise with parking and the drive-through and increased foot traffic and strangers 'just looking around'. Armygirly68 (via web)
