CROYDEN Cricket Club will this Sunday host a Rice Meal event to raise awareness on the struggle of living below the poverty line in Third World countries.
Rice Meal's co-founder Graham Howes is hoping for almost double the attendance last year, the first time the event was held.
"We had 46 people taking part. This year we're hoping for about 80 to 100," he said.
For $30, people taking part get a glass of water and a bowl of steamed rice.
"Most Westerners take rice and water for granted. But one-third of people living in this world eat less than a bowl of rice each day."
"All the money raised goes to (outer east charity) The Footmen Club and World Vision."
Guest speakers include Lonely Planet founder Tony Wheeler, World Vision representative and Rice Meal co-founder Michael Eefting.
