LATEST: Yarra Ranges councillors last night voted unanimously against a proposed fuel, hotel and fast-food complex at the gateway of Healesville.
The public gallery at Tuesday night’s meeting cheered when all nine councillors refused the planning application.
Healesville SES duty officer Jade Cretella, who raised her concerns about the development with the Weekly last week, represented the 1153 objectors to the proposal and pointed to the detrimental safety, business and social aspects it would bring.
She said it was ‘‘not welcome, not inviting and not good for Healesville’’.
Director of the land owner Joseph Alesci said the council report did not look at positive aspects of the site and was ‘‘biased and not balanced’’.
The case is likely to end up at VCAT.

Also at last night’s meeting, councillors were again divided on the issue of boycotting Reflex paper.
All five new councillors voted against a motion by councillor Samantha Dunn to rescind on the December 11 decisions to abandon the Wilderness Society’s ethical paper pledge.
More coverage on the issue in next week’s Yarra Ranges Weekly.
