SOMETIMES, once the wheels behind good ideas start turning, they just take on a life of their own. It's what happened when Jac Edwards, an employee at Curves women's gym in Lilydale, began organising a fund-raiser to raise awareness of ovarian cancer. What started off as just a friendly afternoon tea quickly turned into an all-day event.
"After the response we got [when organising the event], we're now running it all day," the Croydon resident said, adding that more than 100 people are expected to attend.
For co-organiser and work colleague, Seville's Debbie McCabe, the day is particularly special.
"My mother has been suffering from ovarian cancer for six years," she said.
"I just want to make other woman aware of ovarian cancer."
Ms Edwards and Ms McCabe have organised an activity-filled day from 6am tomorrow to 11.30am, with a second session starting at 3.30pm and finishing at 7.30pm.
A dozen stalls will be open, selling products ranging from body care to stone bracelets, and photo booths will also be open.
Guest speakers will include Rita Brancatini, from Live Your Passion, a not-for-profit organisation that assists women build confidence and self-esteem, and Evelyn MP Christine Fyffe.
Professional masseuse Mark Lambert will also lend his expertise with neck and full body massages. All funds raised will go to Ovarian Cancer Australia.
