EASTERN Golf Club's relocation to Yering may be challenged in the Supreme Court by the underbidder for the club's current course in Doncaster.
Planning Minister Matthew Guy earlier this month approved the Yering proposal days before an appeal was due to be heard.
The Age reported last week that developer Bill Boerkamp had instructed lawyers to begin proceedings in the Supreme Court to challenge Mr Guy's decision.
Mr Guy approved the $49 million project at 4.30pm on Friday, February 8, ahead of a scheduled Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal hearing the following Monday.
The VCAT case was due to be between Mr Boerkamp and Yarra Ranges Council, which approved the proposal in September last year.
Mr Boerkamp will reportedly take the matter to court if Mr Guy does not reconsider his decision.
A spokesman for Mr Guy said he used his ministerial powers to assist the council.
Mr Boerkamp put in an unsuccessful bid for the club's course in Doncaster. It was bought by developer Mirvac in mid-2011. Mirvac can only begin work on the site — a proposed $1billion, 800-dwelling estate — once relocation to Yering is approved.
