More than 3000 people took over the streets of the hills on Saturday, marching from Belgrave to Tecoma Primary School in protest of the proposed Tecoma McDonald's. The No Macca's in the Hills group is continuing its fight against the fast-food chain after it received VCAT approval to build a restaurant in the town. A variety of community speakers addressed the crowd, including Monbulk MP James Merlino and Tecoma GP Dennis Gration. Spokesman Gary Muratore said protesters worked directly with police to keep the march peaceful. "We need to show McDonald's they're not welcome. We're trying to force a meeting with them so we can put the community side of the story to them."
