Headspace: decision delayed on youth mental health centre site

A DECISION on where a new outer-east youth mental health centre will be located has been delayed.

Maroondah and Knox have both been lobbying hard for the headspace youth mental health hub to be placed in their area: in either Maroondah Highway, Ringwood or Knox O-Zone in Wantirna South. A decision had originally been expected at the end of last month, but will now be made by the end of June.

Headspace chief executive officer Chris Tanti said the business planning process had taken longer than initially expected.

"But taking the time to consider all factors will ultimately mean young people in the outer east will have access to the best headspace centre possible," he said.

A headspace spokeswoman told the Weekly she was unable to comment on why the decision had been delayed because the process was confidential.
