The musical delights and comedy scenes of popular Gilbert and Sullivan creation The Mikado are coming to Ringwood's Karralyka Theatre this month.
The show is being presented by the Gilbert and Sullivan Company of Australia, which is putting its own twist on the popular show.
Brian Hannan - whom many will remember for his nine years on the ABC's BellBird or his hysterical portrayal of Sir Joseph Porter in HMS Pinafore - plays the comic leading role of KoKo.
Stars in the show include Alison Rae Jones, Caroline Vercoe, Chris McKenna and Philip Wheeldon.
The story is set in the Japanese town of Titipu, where, having introduced themselves, Japanese nobles meet a wandering minstrel named Nanki-Poo. He tells them of his love for Yum-Yum.
Yum-Yum was engaged to Ko-Ko, a cut-price tailor, but he has been sentenced to death for flirting, so Nanki-Poo returns to find his beloved Yum-Yum and marry her.
The Mikado is on at 8pm Friday, September 14, at Karralyka Theatre, Mines Road, Ringwood East. Tickets $39.50; concession or groups of eight or more, $37.50 each.
