Brolly good show for Mooroolbark

MOOROOLBARK residents are a proud bunch — and who better to share their love of the area with than each other?

Formed in 2009, the Mooroolbark Umbrella Group aims to inform people of the town's services, amenities and activities.

The group is not like a business association as it is open to all groups including service organisations, church groups, schools and residents.

"The conversations for this group started from people who are passionate about Mooroolbark, " MUG chairman Randall Bourchier said. "It is quite a diverse range of organisations we have represented. We are not expressing a narrow agenda."

Mr Bourchier said the group also advocated on issues for the community and has been known to write letters to the local and state government about town concerns.

Each year MUG hosts a community forum with a high-profile guest speaker — last year's event drew more than 100 people.

This year the forum is on November 22 at the Mooroolbark Community Centre with guest speaker well-known media presenter and psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg.
