ONE person has been airlifted to The Alfred hospital folllowing a serious collision on the Maroondah Highway this afternoon.
Three lanes of the highway in Chirnside Park have been closed as police assess the scene.
The outbound lanes were closed near Fletcher Road about 1.50pm.
Traffic is being detoured via Kimberley Crescent and the car park of the Chirnside Park shopping centre.
A Yarra Ranges highway patrol officer confirmed a ‘‘serious injury collision’’ had occurred and that units were still being dispatched to the scene.
The officer could not provide further details at this stage.
