SWINBURNE University will continue as major sponsor of Kilsyth Cobras basketball club in 2013 — but beyond that is in question.
The university has been naming rights sponsor for the men's and women's SEABL teams since 2009, and its contract has been renewed for one year.
Last week, Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Shaun Leane submitted an adjournment to parliament questioning whether the sponsorship would continue due to TAFE funding cuts.
However, Kilsyth Basketball's business development manager Megan Martin said the sponsorship had been confirmed.
"We continue to enjoy a very good relationship with Swinburne which has been of mutual benefit for many years," she said in a statement. "The arrangement delivers good value for Swinburne, not just for Lilydale but also for its nearby campus at Croydon."
