Detectives confirm: explosives device found at Lilydale home

A 43-YEAR-OLD Lilydale man is assisting police with their inquiries after it was confirmed a device found at a Lilydale home yesterday was infact an explosives weapon.

A spokeswoman from Victoria Police said police discovered the device following a search at the Anderson Street address about 1.30pm.

The bomb response unit was called in to safely dismantle the device  and forensic chemists were examining the scene late yesterday afternoon.

The arson and explosives squad is now in charge of the investigation.
