AN eight-year-old's innocent letter has led to big things for the children of Chirnside Park.
Benjamin wrote to Chirnside Ward councillor Richard Higgins asking for a basketball ring to be installed on Country Club Drive so that he could practise his shots.
The response? Yarra Ranges Council built an entire court and additional play area at a cost of $35,000.
Cr Higgins said it was fantastic that people were asking council for these facilities. "I just think it's a really good thing that kids want to be playing outside instead of being inside all day.
"They see things that we don't always see."
The park is now being used regularly by people from around the area. But it doesn't stop there.
The council has put together a master plan for another park to be located on Kimberley Drive, Chirnside Park, after another young man wrote a letter to Cr Higgins.
