THE state government will fund a Box Hill TAFE feasibility study on the Swinburne University Lilydale campus, Liberal Evelyn MP Christine Fyffe has confirmed.
The funding is an indicator that Box Hill TAFE is a leading candidate to take over the campus, after the Weekly revealed on October 2 that Swinburne had been in contact with Box Hill.
It is not known how much the funding is worth.
Ms Fyffe was reluctant to say who she believes will take over the campus, but she would be happy with Box Hill TAFE doing so. "I certainly hope they do," she said. "I've met many people from Box Hill and would be delighted if an institution like that took over."
Ms Fyffe said tertiary education at the site was still a high priority.
"I'm quietly confident we'll get a university there as part of the campus. There may be one or two providers."
The government announced last week a project manager had been appointed to assist with complications surrounding the site.
