Maroondah festival's a day for fun and remembering

BRILLIANT weather certainly helped draw the crowds to Town Park, Croydon, on Sunday for this year's Maroondah Festival.

More than 25,000 people from across the region turned out for the festival, now in its 23rd year.

Newly elected mayor Nora Lamont said this year's festival was "very symbolic" as it also incorporated the Croydon RSL's Remembrance Day service.

Other highlights included the Eastland Kids Kingdom, packed with happy children all day; performances on the main stage from the Community Choir; a new youth precinct and Battle of the Bands competition; and a chalk art community mural project.
